About This Quote
I was a man before I was a king, and no true man walks away when a friend needs him. These are the words of the mighty Hercules. He used them to encourage his friend Theseus, who had been captured by the Minotaur, a monster that lived in the labyrinth. The only way out of the maze was to kill the Minotaur, which was an extremely difficult task.
In order to be successful in this endeavor, Hercules would need to overcome many fearsome obstacles. He would need to find strong weapons and armor strong enough to withstand the Minotaur’s claws and teeth. He would need to hunt down a bull all by himself and slaughter it with his bare hands.
And he would need to find a way past the many traps cunningly hidden throughout the maze. Hercules could not do any of these things alone, so he asked for help from his friends—and from all people who were willing to give it.
